How to take a lateral view X-ray of the nasal bones
Generally, different types of nasal injuries require different radiographic techniques. Taking nasal trauma as an example, the specific procedure is as follows:
1. The patient lies prone on the imaging table or sits on a chair at one end of the table.
2. Position the skull in a standard lateral position.
3. Place the cassette laterally to the zygomatic bone, with the nasal bones centered on the cassette.
4. Maintain a source-to-image distance of 90–100 cm.
5. Direct the central ray to the nasion and perpendicular to the cassette.
During radiography, do not use a grid. To ensure accuracy of results, it is recommended that the procedure be performed under the guidance of a qualified professional.
