Introduction
Swelling and hardness after being bitten by an insect during pregnancy are usually normal, but may also result from pathological factors such as allergic reactions or local infection. Besides these causes, symptoms could also be due to papular urticaria, insect bite dermatitis, or folliculitis. If discomfort does not subside within a short period, medical attention at a hospital is recommended.

Swelling and hardness after being bitten by an insect during pregnancy are usually normal, but may also be caused by pathological factors such as allergic reactions or local infection. The specific analysis is as follows:
  I. Normal Phenomenon
Insect saliva contains various toxins that enter the skin through bites, causing swelling and congestion in the affected area, resulting in localized swelling. These substances may also cause irritation, leading to symptoms such as redness, swelling, and pain. Applying iodophor or acetic acid solution can provide effective disinfection.
  II. Pathological Factors
1. Allergic Reaction
Pregnant women often have heightened sensitivity. Insect venom in the saliva may trigger an allergic reaction on the skin, causing edema; in severe cases, hard nodules may form locally. Under medical guidance, topical medications such as calamine lotion or hydrocortisone butyrate cream can be applied to relieve itching.
2. Local Infection
Failure to properly disinfect after an insect bite may lead to secondary bacterial infection of the skin, which can result in redness, swelling, and induration. The inflammation may worsen over time, making the skin feel firm to the touch. It is recommended to seek medical advice promptly and use medications such as fusidic acid ointment or compound polymyxin B ointment for treatment.
Besides the above causes, symptoms could also stem from conditions such as papular urticaria, insect bite dermatitis, or folliculitis. If discomfort persists without improvement in the short term, medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are necessary.
