In recent years, my neck has been itchy and breaking out in prickly heat every summer.
The neck refers to the cervical region. In recent summers, persistent itching and prickly heat rashes on the neck may be caused by physiological factors, or by pathological conditions such as insect bite dermatitis and solar dermatitis. Treatment can be achieved through general management and medication. Specific details are as follows:
1. Physiological Factors
During hot summer weather, the body produces excessive sweat, which may block sweat ducts and lead to papules on the neck. It is recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably made of cotton.
2. Pathological Factors
1) Insect Bite Dermatitis
In summer, mosquitoes are more prevalent. If a patient's neck is bitten by mosquitoes, it may trigger an allergic reaction in the skin tissue, causing symptoms such as swelling, papules, and itching. Under medical guidance, topical application of erythromycin ointment or oral administration of levocetirizine hydrochloride capsules may be used for treatment.
2) Solar Dermatitis
Summer ultraviolet (UV) radiation is intense. Prolonged exposure of the skin to UV rays may result in localized sunburn and peeling. Under medical guidance, topical corticosteroid creams such as halometasone cream or desonide cream can be applied for treatment.
In addition to the above causes, similar symptoms may also result from urticaria, eczema, or tinea corporis. Attention should be paid to dietary adjustments, avoiding spicy and greasy foods.
