Introduction
Under normal circumstances, a full-term pregnancy lasts from 37 to 42 weeks. Pregnancy is the process in which a fertilized egg implants in the uterus of a woman and develops into an embryo and then a fetus. Delivery occurring between 28 and 37 weeks of pregnancy is considered preterm birth. Preterm birth may lead to complications such as respiratory distress, impaired temperature regulation, weakened immune system, and gastrointestinal abnormalities in the fetus.

Pregnancy refers to the process in which a fertilized egg implants in the uterus of a woman and develops into an embryo and then a fetus. Delivery occurring between 28 and 37 weeks of gestation is considered preterm birth. Preterm birth may lead to complications such as respiratory distress, abnormal temperature regulation, weakened immune system, and gastrointestinal disorders in the newborn. Delivery beyond 42 weeks is considered post-term pregnancy. Post-term pregnancy may increase risks such as fetal distress, oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid), nuchal cord (umbilical cord around the neck), and intrauterine infection. Delivery between 37 and 42 weeks is regarded as full-term and normal childbirth, which generally poses the least risk for both mother and baby.

If regular uterine contractions, vaginal bleeding ("show"), or a sensation of fetal descent occur during pregnancy, it is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation at a qualified hospital to determine whether labor has begun.
