Introduction
A hordeolum (stye) refers to a red, swollen lump caused by infection of the sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelash follicles or the meibomian glands along the edge of the eyelid. The lump usually contains yellow pus. Under medical guidance, if the pus is properly drained, recovery is typically rapid—mostly resolved within about four days and fully healed within approximately one week. However, if drainage is incomplete, there is a certain chance of recurrence.

A stye usually refers to a red, swollen lump formed due to infection of the sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelash follicles or the meibomian glands along the eyelid margin. The lump typically contains yellow pus. If the pus is not completely drained, the condition may persist and take longer to heal. Once the pus is properly drained under medical guidance, symptoms such as redness, heat, swelling, and pain usually improve significantly. Recovery tends to be rapid, with substantial improvement occurring in about four days and complete recovery within approximately one week. However, if drainage is incomplete, there remains a risk of recurrence.

After recovery, patients can regularly apply warm compresses to the eyes to help prevent recurrence. Additionally, it's important to maintain good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing and ensuring contact lenses are clean and sterile. Furthermore, engaging in regular physical exercise can help strengthen the body's immune system and reduce the likelihood of developing styes.
