Introduction
Under normal circumstances, the side effects of dried tangerine peel (Chenpi) include depletion of qi and body fluids, gastrointestinal discomfort, effects on the cardiovascular system, interference with drug metabolism, and heatiness. It is recommended to use it according to medical advice. Dried tangerine peel is warm and drying in nature and has the function of promoting qi circulation. For individuals with qi deficiency or yin deficiency, excessive or long-term consumption may further deplete qi and injure yin, thereby worsening physical weakness.

Generally, the side effects of aged tangerine peel (Chenpi) include depletion of Qi and Yin, gastrointestinal discomfort, effects on the cardiovascular system, interference with drug metabolism, and heatiness. It is recommended to use it under medical supervision. The specific analysis is as follows:

  1. Depletion of Qi and Yin

Due to its warm and drying nature, Chenpi can circulate Qi. For individuals with Qi deficiency or Yin deficiency, excessive or prolonged consumption may further deplete Qi and injure Yin, thereby worsening physical weakness. Symptoms may include shortness of breath, fatigue, dry mouth, sore throat, and heat sensations in the palms, soles, and chest.

  2. Gastrointestinal discomfort

Chenpi can enhance gastrointestinal motility. However, excessive intake may excessively stimulate the intestines, leading to gastrointestinal disturbances. Particularly for individuals with weak gastrointestinal function or ulcers, this may trigger abdominal pain and diarrhea.

  3. Effects on the cardiovascular system

Chenpi contains certain volatile oils that can stimulate cardiac activity. Improper or excessive use may accelerate heart rate. For individuals with pre-existing heart conditions or cardiovascular diseases, this could increase cardiac strain and lead to symptoms such as palpitations.

  4. Interference with drug metabolism

Components of Chenpi may interact with certain medications, affecting their metabolic and absorption processes in the body, altering drug concentrations, thus influencing therapeutic effects and increasing the risk of adverse reactions.

  5. Heatiness (excess internal heat)

As Chenpi has a warm nature, excessive consumption during hot weather or by individuals with a naturally heat-prone constitution may exacerbate internal heat. This may manifest as symptoms such as dry mouth, sore throat, oral ulcers, and constipation.

Although Chenpi is a beneficial herbal remedy, it must be used with caution. Patients should take it in appropriate amounts under a doctor's guidance according to their individual condition, to ensure safe and effective use.
