What are the common causes of neonatal pneumonia?
Generally, common causes of neonatal pneumonia include aspiration factors, low birth weight or prematurity, bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia, and mycoplasma pneumonia. Prompt medical attention is required, with treatment following medical advice. The detailed information is as follows:

1. Aspiration factors: During intrauterine life or delivery, newborns may aspirate contaminated amniotic fluid, meconium, or vaginal secretions. Pathogens in these substances can directly cause pulmonary infection. Additionally, milk entering the trachea during feeding may also lead to aspiration pneumonia. Maintaining airway patency and promptly clearing respiratory secretions are essential. For milk aspiration-related pneumonia, feeding methods should be modified to prevent choking during feeding.
2. Low birth weight or prematurity: Due to underdeveloped lungs and low immunity, low birth weight or preterm infants are more susceptible to pathogen invasion, which can lead to pneumonia. Enhanced warmth to maintain stable body temperature is necessary, along with adequate nutritional support to promote weight gain.
3. Bacterial pneumonia: Neonates with low immunity are prone to bacterial infections. Bacteria may enter the lungs through the respiratory tract, digestive tract, or bloodstream, causing pneumonia, often accompanied by high fever. Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial treatments such as cefixime granules, amoxicillin granules, and azithromycin granules may be used under medical guidance.
4. Viral pneumonia: Viral pneumonia is contagious and can spread via droplets or contact. After exposure to viruses, newborns may develop pneumonia when the virus enters the lungs through the respiratory tract, often accompanied by coughing. Antiviral medications such as Pudi Lan oral liquid, Siji anti-virus mixture, and Lianhua Qingwen granules may be used under medical guidance.
5. Mycoplasma pneumonia: Mycoplasma is a microorganism between bacteria and viruses that can cause mycoplasma pneumonia in newborns. Mycoplasma enters the lungs through the respiratory tract, causing inflammatory reactions, often accompanied by moist rales in the lungs. Treatment under medical guidance with drugs such as lofex granules, roxithromycin granules, and Chuanbei枇杷膏 (Loquat Cough Syrup) may be administered for antibacterial and cough-relieving effects.
During treatment, individualized treatment plans should be formulated based on the infant's specific condition and etiology, with active anti-infective and supportive therapies. Prevention should also be strengthened to reduce the incidence of neonatal pneumonia.
