Introduction
In general, adrenal nodules are not necessarily tumors. To accurately determine the nature of an adrenal nodule, imaging studies, blood hormone level tests, and, if necessary, tissue biopsy are usually required. Once an adrenal nodule is detected, it should be evaluated by a specialist to determine its nature, and a treatment plan should be developed based on the specific circumstances.

Generally speaking, adrenal nodules are not necessarily tumors. Detailed analysis is as follows:

Adrenal nodules may be caused by various non-tumorous factors. For example, adrenal hyperplasia occurs when adrenal cortical cells abnormally proliferate and form nodule-like changes due to endocrine disorders or other influencing factors, but this is not the abnormal proliferation of tumor cells. Adrenal cysts are another possibility; these cysts mainly contain fluid and form due to the expansion of cavities within adrenal tissue or other cystic lesions, which similarly do not fall within the category of tumors. Only when abnormal clonal proliferation of cells within the adrenal tissue occurs will a tumorous nodule form, which could be a benign adrenal cortical adenoma or a malignant adrenal cortical carcinoma. Therefore, the presence of an adrenal nodule cannot directly be diagnosed as a tumor; further evaluation and assessment through imaging studies, hormone level testing, and other methods are required.

To accurately determine the nature of an adrenal nodule, imaging examinations, blood hormone level testing, and sometimes tissue biopsies are usually required. Once an adrenal nodule is detected, a specialist should evaluate its characteristics and formulate an appropriate treatment plan based on the specific situation. If there are any doubts or uncertainties, timely medical consultation is necessary.
