Introduction
Patients with hyperuricemia are prone to gout. Such patients should reduce or avoid the following foods in their diet: 1. Alcoholic beverages: including beer, baijiu (Chinese distilled spirit), and red wine. Patients with elevated uric acid levels should avoid alcohol consumption as much as possible. 2. Seafood, animal offal, and meat: These foods—as well as meat broths—are high in purines; therefore, patients with hyperuricemia should avoid consuming them.

With improvements in living standards, an increasing number of people are experiencing hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels) in daily life—not only harming their physical health but also significantly affecting their quality of life and work performance. Understanding this condition is essential for effective prevention and treatment. So, what foods should individuals with high uric acid avoid?

Foods to Avoid with Hyperuricemia

Patients with elevated uric acid levels are at higher risk of developing gout. Therefore, dietary modifications are crucial—specifically, reducing or avoiding the following foods: 1. Alcoholic beverages: including beer, baijiu (Chinese distilled spirit), and red wine—all rich in purines. Individuals with hyperuricemia should strictly limit or avoid alcohol consumption. 2. Seafood, organ meats, and certain meats: such as shellfish, liver, kidneys, and meat broths contain high levels of purines and should be avoided. 3. Legumes and soy products: including tofu and green beans (string beans) are relatively high in purines and should also be limited or avoided.

Although sugary beverages contain no purines, the fructose they contain interferes with purine metabolism. Regular consumption of sweetened drinks is associated with elevated serum uric acid levels; thus, long-term intake should be minimized. Patients with hyperuricemia should drink plenty of water, urinate frequently, engage in moderate physical activity, maintain a healthy body weight, and regularly monitor blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

Avoid spicy and irritating foods in daily life. Increase fluid intake to promote metabolic turnover. Engage in appropriate outdoor exercise to strengthen immunity. We hope this information proves helpful!
