Lipid Profile Reference Ranges
Disease description:
My uncle is 46 years old and suspects he has high blood lipid levels. What are the normal reference ranges for blood lipids?
Total Cholesterol: Normal range is 5.23–5.69 mmol/L; this parameter reflects the total amount of cholesterol in the blood.
Triglycerides: Normal range is 0.56–1.7 mmol/L; they constitute a key component of blood lipids and are closely associated with cardiovascular disease risk.
High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C): The normal range is typically 1.16–1.42 mmol/L for men and 1.29–1.56 mmol/L for women. HDL-C is considered “good” cholesterol because it helps remove harmful cholesterol from blood vessels.
Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C): Normal level is below 3.12 mmol/L. LDL-C is regarded as “bad” cholesterol because it contributes to the development of atherosclerosis.
