How is renal colic treated?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been feeling uncomfortable in my kidneys. Initially, the pain wasn’t severe, and taking some analgesics provided relief, so I didn’t pay much attention to it. However, this morning the pain intensified—specifically, it’s a colicky pain. I’d like to know how renal colic is treated.
First, the severity of the condition must be assessed. Mild cases can be managed with medication; however, for more severe cases—or when medical treatment proves ineffective—surgical intervention may be considered. Renal colic typically results from urinary tract stones; therefore, stone expulsion therapy should be initiated first to alleviate pain. During episodes of significant discomfort, local heat application using a hot water bag may also provide relief.
