What should I do for renal colic?
Disease description:
I’ve noticed severe pain in my kidney area, radiating to my entire lower back. This pain feels like renal colic—what should I do for renal colic?
In general, renal colic caused by kidney stones should be considered first; however, ureteral smooth muscle spasm due to urinary tract stones cannot be ruled out. It is recommended that you visit a hospital for evaluation. If stones are confirmed, small ones may be passed spontaneously with medical management (e.g., alpha-blockers or calcium channel blockers), whereas larger stones typically require surgical intervention (e.g., extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, ureteroscopy, or percutaneous nephrolithotomy). In daily life, pay close attention to your diet—consume plenty of vegetables and fruits.
