What Are the Early Symptoms of HIV Infection?
Disease description:
I’ve recently read about some HIV cases and suspect I might be infected as well. What are the early symptoms of HIV infection?
During the early stage of HIV infection, some individuals may remain entirely asymptomatic, while others may experience flu-like symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, fatigue, and myalgia. These symptoms typically appear within 2–4 weeks after infection; however, HIV infection can only be definitively confirmed via blood testing, usually after an average window period of three months. HIV is caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus and is classified as an immune system disorder; it is currently incurable. Approximately three months after high-risk exposure, clinical manifestations of immunosuppression may emerge, primarily including skin rashes or papular eruptions, elevated body temperature, decreased appetite, and weight loss.
