What Is Phimosis?
Disease description:
The skin on my testicles looks unusual—it can be pulled back. During my examination, the doctor diagnosed me with phimosis. I’d like to know: What is phimosis?
Hello, phimosis refers to a condition in which the foreskin extends beyond the coronal sulcus of the glans penis, covering the urethral meatus, and fails to fully retract to expose the glans even during penile erection. Phimosis is often genetically determined and is classified into two types: true phimosis and pseudo-phimosis. In true phimosis, the foreskin cannot be retracted to expose the glans under any circumstances; in pseudo-phimosis, the glans cannot be exposed when the penis is flaccid but becomes fully visible upon erection. Phimosis is typically treated via procedures such as circumcision or foreskin ligation. If left untreated—and especially if local hygiene is neglected—it may predispose individuals to balanoposthitis, urinary tract infections, premature ejaculation, and other complications.
