Patients with hyperuricemia can consume lemons. Elevated serum uric acid levels are closely associated with adverse outcomes involving blood vessels, the heart, and the kidneys. Uric acid–lowering therapy is closely linked to the prevention and management of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Since lemons are low-purine foods—containing only 3.4 mg of purine per 100 g—they fall within the category of low-purine diets. Therefore, patients with hyperuricemia may safely consume lemons.
