Osteoporosis is a systemic bone metabolic disorder characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone microarchitecture, leading to increased bone fragility and susceptibility to fractures—particularly in postmenopausal women and other middle-aged and elderly individuals. Alendronate sodium tablets are a chemical pharmaceutical preparation containing alendronate sodium as the active ingredient; they effectively inhibit osteoclast activity and demonstrate favorable clinical efficacy in improving osteoporotic symptoms and enhancing bone mineral density and strength. In contrast, osseous peptide tablets are formulated from osseous peptide powder extracted from the long bones of healthy pigs or fetal calves, and are primarily indicated for osteoarthritis, rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, and fractures caused by other factors. Given the differences in their respective indications, concurrent use of these two medications for treating osteoporosis should be determined by a physician based on the individual patient’s clinical condition and therapeutic experience. Recommendations and Advice: 1. Osseous peptide tablets should not be co-administered with amino acid–containing drugs or alkylating agents. Their use must be discontinued if any changes in drug appearance or quality occur. 2. Patients with osteoporosis should ensure adequate dietary calcium intake. Calcium-rich foods—including pork or beef marrow bones, cartilage, dried shrimp, laver (nori), hair seaweed (fat choy), black fungus, tangerines, and walnuts—are recommended.
