How is acute orchitis treated?
Disease description:
The day before yesterday, I went to the hospital for evaluation due to testicular swelling and pain, along with redness and swelling of the scrotum, and was diagnosed with acute orchitis. How should acute orchitis be treated?
Acute orchitis is a common clinical condition currently managed primarily with pharmacotherapy. If drug therapy proves ineffective, surgical intervention may be necessary. During the acute phase of orchitis, patients often experience severe pain and may take analgesics as prescribed—such as rectal administration of diclofenac sodium suppositories or oral oxycodone/acetaminophen tablets—and may also undergo spermatic cord block. Additionally, patients should rest in bed, elevate the scrotum, and apply local cold compresses initially; after 3–5 days, warm compresses may be used to alleviate swelling and pain and prevent inflammatory spread.
