A small, hard lump inside the anal verge may indicate external hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids typically occur at the anal verge and are often asymptomatic. However, if sudden internal bleeding occurs—leading to thrombosed external hemorrhoids—it can cause severe pain and rapid enlargement of the lump. Additionally, genital warts (caused by human papillomavirus) commonly present as single or multiple fleshy growths around the anal verge. Furthermore, perianal infection resulting in a perianal abscess may also manifest as a small, firm lump near the anal opening.
