Can a B-mode ultrasound examine the cervix?
Disease description:
Had intercourse this morning—can I undergo a transvaginal ultrasound this afternoon? Also, should I retest for mycoplasma infection? What about cervical examination? Can transvaginal ultrasound assess the cervix?
Transvaginal ultrasound (B-mode ultrasound) generally cannot adequately assess the cervix. It is primarily used to examine the uterus, ovaries, and adnexa. Cervical evaluation requires routine gynecological examinations, liquid-based cytology (TCT), or vaginal discharge testing. TCT is currently the most advanced diagnostic method available. Studies show that, compared with conventional Papanicolaou (Pap) staining, TCT achieves patient satisfaction and detection rates for abnormal cervical cells exceeding 95%.
