Are milia the same as blackheads?
Disease description:
Last night, after washing my face, I noticed a small bump around my eyes—it’s painless and itch-free. I consulted a doctor, who diagnosed it as a milia. Is milia the same as a whitehead (comedo)?
Fat granules are not comedones. Comedones result from hyperkeratosis of the inner follicular wall or sebum accumulation and typically lead to acne; chemical peels with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) are recommended under a physician’s guidance. Fat granules, by contrast, are small, white bumps on the skin—about the size of a needle tip—that resemble tiny sesame seeds. They commonly appear on the face, especially around the eyes in women, and can be removed via laser surgery.
