What Causes Knee Joint Crepitus?
Disease description:
I don’t know why, but I always hear a cracking sound in my leg bones while walking. Upon closer listening, it’s my knee joint making a “clicking” or “popping” sound. I’d like to consult about the possible causes of this knee joint crepitus.
Knee joint effusion, injury, and other causes. Effusion may be present in the knee joint, with inflammatory fluid accumulating within the joint cavity. During movement, this fluid can become compressed, collide, and impact against surrounding structures; additionally, the presence of fluid may lead to increased friction and impact between joint surfaces. Injuries such as meniscal tears or cruciate ligament damage may compromise the knee’s stabilizing structures, resulting in joint instability during motion. This instability, combined with abnormal friction and impact, can produce audible crepitus.
