What to do if bitten by a leech
Disease description:
Yesterday, our company held a team-building activity outdoors. I was wearing short sleeves and accidentally got bitten by an insect. A colleague said it was a leech. I would like to know what should I do if bitten by a leech?
To remove a leech after it has bitten you, apply an irritant solution to make the leech detach. Solutions such as highly concentrated alcohol or saltwater can be used—soak a cotton swab and continuously apply it to the leech's head until it releases. Alternatively, you can apply soapy water, tobacco juice, vinegar, or alcohol to the leech to encourage detachment. After the leech falls off, promptly clean and treat the bite wound to prevent infection. Disinfect the area with iodine tincture or alcohol.
