Acute vulvitis can be treated with different medications depending on the causative pathogen. If acute vulvitis is caused by bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis, medications such as ornidazole suppositories may be used under medical guidance. If it is caused by bacterial infection, potassium permanganate sitz baths and topical application of antibiotic creams may be administered as directed by a physician. Additionally, it is advisable to wear loose-fitting cotton underwear regularly.
