What is the treatment for acute otitis externa?
Disease description:
A friend suddenly experienced severe ear pain, a feeling of fullness in the ear, and tinnitus while at work. After going to the hospital, they were diagnosed with acute external otitis. What is the treatment for acute external otitis?
If a patient has swelling of the external auditory canal with purulent discharge, the pus should first be thoroughly cleaned, followed by treatment with antibiotic ear drops and application of antibiotic ointment to the affected area. If the patient also has symptoms such as fever and general weakness, oral antibiotics such as cephalosporins or azithromycin should be administered. In daily life, avoid spicy and irritating foods, abstain from alcohol, and prevent water from entering the ears during bathing. With comprehensive treatment, recovery usually occurs within 7–10 days.
