Why shouldn't you do strenuous exercise after eating?
Disease description:
After eating today, I wanted to go for a run, but my mom said not to do intense exercise right after a meal. Why shouldn't we engage in vigorous physical activity after eating?
Engaging in intense physical activity after a meal may cause gastrointestinal spasms in patients, leading to discomfort such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it could even result in systemic shock. Additionally, vigorous exercise performed when overly full may cause intestinal torsion, resulting in severe abdominal pain; if not treated promptly, parts of the intestine may become damaged. It is recommended to engage only in light activity after eating, and to wait half an hour to one hour before performing intense exercise.
