The exact cause of finger tenosynovitis is not fully understood. It may result from impaired gliding of the flexor or extensor tendons at the tendon sheath origin, leading to repeated friction that causes proliferation and fibrosis of the tendon sheath, further restricting tendon movement. It could also be secondary to underlying autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis.
