During today's physical examination, the doctor said my bile acid level is a bit high. I'd like to know what might be causing this?

Dr. Jin Zhongkui
Elevated bile acid levels may be caused by hepatitis, such as hepatitis C, hepatitis B, or hepatitis A, or by long-term use of medications that damage the liver, or by alcoholic cirrhosis. If patients develop biliary obstruction—such as from gallstones or tumors—that prevents normal bile excretion, bile acid levels can also rise. Additionally, pregnant women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy may experience elevated bile acid levels.
