Causes of Lower Limb Swelling

Disease description:

I feel slight swelling in both feet and legs, but it returns to normal after a night’s sleep. My family thinks it might be due to prolonged sitting at my office desk, but I’m not sure. Could you please tell me: What are the possible causes of lower limb swelling?

Hello, lower limb swelling may be caused by conditions such as varicose veins of the lower extremities, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or deep venous valve insufficiency. Severe hypoalbuminemia commonly leads to generalized edema rather than isolated lower limb swelling. Other diseases that can cause edema include heart failure and renal disorders, both of which may result in tissue edema. Heart failure—particularly right-sided heart failure—leads to systemic venous congestion and severe generalized edema. Additionally, hypothyroidism and cellulitis may also contribute to lower limb swelling. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you a pleasant and healthy life!
