Ketoacidosis may be caused by diabetes, excessive starvation, alcohol intoxication, or other reasons. Ketoacidosis refers to the excessively rapid and extensive breakdown of body fat. In severe diabetes, insufficient insulin secretion leads to reduced glucose utilization, causing the body to accelerate fat breakdown, thereby resulting in ketoacidosis. During prolonged starvation, when glucose levels are inadequate to sustain bodily functions, the body extensively breaks down fat, leading to ketoacidosis. Alcohol intoxication inhibits glycogen formation in the body; if glycogen stores are insufficient to meet energy demands, this also triggers accelerated fat breakdown and subsequent ketoacidosis. Prompt medical attention is required for ketoacidosis, and treatment should be based on identifying and addressing the underlying cause.
