Symptoms and Risks of Ketoacidosis
Disease description:
My mother has diabetes, and I've learned that diabetic ketoacidosis may occur. Could you please tell me what symptoms and risks are associated with ketoacidosis?
Ketoacidosis may present symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, and vomiting, and can lead to serious complications including cerebral edema and heart failure. Excessive and rapid breakdown of body fat can cause ketoacidosis, resulting in discomforts like fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, dehydration and shock may occur. Ketoacidosis can lead to cerebral hypoxia, potentially causing cerebral edema; it may also reduce blood flow and impair myocardial perfusion, thereby triggering heart failure.
