Are there differences between vocal cord nodules and vocal polyps?
Disease description:
I previously knew I had vocal cord nodules, but now I also have vocal polyps. Is there a difference between vocal cord nodules and vocal polyps?
The differences between vocal cord nodules and vocal polyps typically lie in their distinct symptoms. Vocal polyps are benign neoplastic lesions on the surface of the vocal cords and are also a typical form of chronic laryngitis. Most vocal polyps appear as grayish-white or pale red, smooth outgrowths. In the early stages, there is a slight symmetric protrusion at the anterior one-third of both vocal cords, accompanied by edema and softness. Over time, the lesion increases in size and becomes more fibrotic, which can impair glottic closure.
