Differences between vulvitis and early-stage leukoplakia of the vulva
Disease description:
I often experience symptoms of vulvar itching, and I always thought I had vulvitis. However, after a hospital examination, the doctor told me that I actually have leukoplakia of the vulva. What are the differences between early-stage vulvitis and vulvar leukoplakia?
The early differences between vulvitis and leukoplakia of the vulva lie in their distinct clinical presentations. Vulvitis typically causes vulvar itching, whereas leukoplakia of the vulva usually causes vulvar itching accompanied by vulvar pain, and may also involve symptoms such as frequent urination during sexual intercourse. The two conditions have different underlying causes: vulvitis is commonly caused by various inflammatory conditions or infections due to bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens; leukoplakia of the vulva is usually caused by poor blood circulation in the subcutaneous tissues of the vulva.
