Disease description:

Last month, I was diagnosed with endometritis. After taking medication, during my follow-up visit the doctor said I had cervicitis. Could you please explain the difference between endometritis and cervicitis?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
Although both endometritis and cervicitis are gynecological inflammations, their key difference lies in the site of inflammation. Endometritis specifically refers to inflammation of the body of the uterus, whereas cervicitis involves infection localized to the cervical region. These two conditions also differ in symptoms. Endometritis commonly presents as mild lower abdominal pain and may be accompanied by increased menstrual bleeding and irregular bleeding. In contrast, cervicitis primarily affects cervical secretions, often causing increased discharge with an unpleasant odor, and sometimes blood-tinged vaginal discharge. Understanding these differences helps patients better recognize their condition and seek timely professional medical treatment.
