What causes cervical inflammation?

Cervicitis is usually caused by pathogenic infections, such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis. Under normal conditions, the cervix has a series of robust defense mechanisms that effectively prevent pathogen invasion and protect our health. During activities such as sexual intercourse or intrauterine procedures, the cervical protective layer may become damaged, weakening its defensive capacity and allowing pathogens to invade opportunistically, leading to cervicitis.
