Dr. Zhou Xiaofeng
Signs of growth in 17-year-olds may include increased sleep and frequent drowsiness, as hormone secretion is particularly active during sleep. Additionally, appetite may suddenly increase, primarily due to the body being in a rapid growth and development phase, thus requiring more nutrients and energy. Moreover, muscle and bone pain may occur, mainly caused by the gradual stretching of joints and ligaments during growth. It is recommended to consume more foods rich in protein, calcium, and vitamin D, which support bone growth, such as milk, eggs, lean meat, and fish. Engaging in physical activities that help stretch the bones—such as basketball, jump rope, and swimming—is also advised. At the same time, exercise intensity and frequency should be reasonably scheduled to avoid injuries from overexertion. Aim to maintain 7–9 hours of sleep each night and try to go to bed before 10 p.m.
