Eye socket pain after retinal detachment surgery
Disease description:
(Female, 60 years old) Is retinal detachment surgery painful? What causes eye socket pain after retinal detachment surgery?
Disease Analysis:
Retinal detachment requires surgical intervention. The earlier the surgery is performed, the better the postoperative recovery outcome. Before the surgery, an anesthetic is injected into the eye to numb the pain-sensitive nerve fibers, so the patient does not feel any pain during the procedure.
Recommendations:
Approximately 4 to 6 hours after surgery, as the anesthetic gradually wears off, patients may experience mild eye pain, which is generally not severe and tolerable. If the pain is significant, patients are advised to keep their eyes closed and rest to minimize friction-related discomfort caused by movement between the eyelid and the eyeball at the incision site.
