Can facial towels be used for red eye (conjunctivitis)?
Disease description:
A 12-year-old child at home has contracted pink eye from a classmate. What precautions should be taken at home, and can the child use facial cleansing towels?
Patients with red eye disease (acute conjunctivitis) can use facial cleansing towels. Red eye disease, or acute conjunctivitis, may be caused by bacterial or viral infections. Facial washing can be done as usual, with no difference from normal routines—just wash your face normally. However, it is important to use separate towels and basins from other family members. Red eye disease is often contagious, so patients should practice self-isolation. When interacting with others, avoid direct contact, use personal toiletries and towels, and prevent unnecessary widespread infection. Family members or friends near the patient should also take protective measures and avoid touching surfaces or areas that the patient has touched with their hands.
