What is leukemia? Is it a serious disease?
Disease description:
A relative has always been in good health, but suddenly developed leukemia. I'd like to ask, what kind of disease is leukemia, and is it serious?
Leukemia is one of the more serious diseases among all blood disorders. Clinically, leukemia is divided into two types: acute leukemia and chronic leukemia. Acute leukemia progresses rapidly. If fever or bleeding occurs, prompt medical attention at a hospital is necessary. Treatments may include bone marrow transplantation or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Chronic leukemia has a longer onset period and progresses slowly, but generally has a better prognosis.
