Early symptoms of sepsis may include fever (sometimes hypothermia), chills, rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, low blood pressure, altered mental status (such as confusion or drowsiness), pale or bluish skin, decreased urine output, and others. As the condition worsens, symptoms such as shock, metabolic acidosis, abnormal blood clotting, and organ failure may develop, which can be life-threatening. Early recognition and prompt treatment are crucial for improving prognosis. The following symptoms may also occur:

1. Altered mental status: Patients with severe sepsis may experience confusion, agitation, or coma.

2. Low blood pressure: Sepsis can cause a drop in blood pressure, leading to hypotension or shock.

3. Persistent high fever: Patients often develop sustained high fever that is difficult to reduce to normal levels with routine antipyretic measures.

4. Skin changes: The skin may appear pale and feel cool to the touch, or present with bruising, purpura, and other skin manifestations.

5. Rapid breathing: Sepsis can affect the respiratory system, causing an increased respiratory rate.

These symptoms may appear individually or concurrently. Prompt medical attention is essential upon detection to avoid treatment delays.
