Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is generally caused by dislodged otoliths. The clinical manifestations include sudden, transient rotational vertigo that occurs when the head moves into certain positions, typically lasting about 60 seconds. It is often accompanied by nystagmus, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms such as sweating. Factors such as head trauma, physical fatigue, sleep deprivation, and excessive smoking or alcohol consumption may trigger recurrence of BPPV. Clinically, it can be treated with oral medications such as betahistine mesylate and Qiangli Dingxuan tablets.
