Causes of hyponatremia in pituitary tumors
Disease description:
I've had a pituitary tumor for a long time. A recent hospital checkup showed hyponatremia. I would like to know what causes hyponatremia in patients with pituitary tumors?
The cause of hyponatremia in pituitary adenoma is generally due to hormonal secretion abnormalities. The pituitary gland secretes adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). In some patients, pituitary tumors can lead to abnormal hormone secretion. Reduced secretion of adrenal cortical hormones may trigger adrenal cortical insufficiency, resulting in a significant decrease in serum adrenal cortical hormone levels. Adrenal cortical hormones have a sodium-excreting effect, and their deficiency can lead to decreased sodium levels in the body.
