How should ovarian teratoma be treated?
Disease description:
I am 23 years old. A few days ago, I went to the hospital for a pre-pregnancy checkup, and the doctor told me that I have a dermoid cyst on my ovary and need to be hospitalized for treatment. How is an ovarian dermoid cyst treated?
The primary treatment for ovarian teratomas is surgical intervention. For patients of childbearing age, procedures such as removal of the affected adnexa, teratoma enucleation, or biopsy of the contralateral ovary can be performed via laparoscopy. Most ovarian teratomas are benign. During surgery, the surgeon will initially assess whether the teratoma is benign or malignant. If malignancy is suspected, intraoperative frozen section analysis is conducted; if confirmed malignant, staging surgery is performed. Similarly, for patients who wish to preserve fertility, fertility-sparing surgery is carried out. Based on postoperative pathological findings, an adjuvant treatment plan—such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy—may be recommended.
