Are elderly parturients more prone to preterm birth?
Disease description:
After having the IUD removed, I unexpectedly became pregnant. I've decided not to terminate the pregnancy and will carry the baby to term. Are older mothers more likely to experience preterm birth?
Advanced maternal age may increase the likelihood of preterm birth. This is because older mothers are more prone to rare complications such as preterm labor, diabetes, and hypertension. As women age, the functions of internal organs decline; if blood volume increases by an additional 1500 ml during pregnancy, the impact on the fetus becomes greater. Therefore, compared to women of normal childbearing age, advanced maternal age not only increases the risk of preterm delivery but also raises the risks of fetal malformations and gestational diabetes.
