It is a transient dysfunction of the brainstem reticular activating system and cerebral cortex following concussion. Generally, patients exhibit the following symptoms: first, they may experience some nonspecific symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and somnolence; second, after trauma, the patient experiences a brief period of unconsciousness, typically lasting no more than half an hour; third, after regaining consciousness, the patient cannot clearly recall the details of the injury. Clinically, we refer to this phenomenon as retrograde amnesia.
