Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a type of hydrocephalus characterized by ventricular enlargement with normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure. Its clinical manifestations include gait instability, cognitive impairment, and urinary incontinence. Common causes include subarachnoid hemorrhage, meningitis, and other conditions, although the cause remains unknown in some patients. The treatment of choice is usually ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. With timely diagnosis and early intervention, most cases can be effectively treated; however, outcomes are generally poorer for those who cannot undergo surgical treatment.
