Causes of hydrocephalus
Disease description:
My relative has always been in good health, but was suddenly diagnosed with hydrocephalus. I'd like to ask, what causes hydrocephalus?
Hydrocephalus is mainly classified into obstructive hydrocephalus and communicating hydrocephalus. Common causes of obstructive hydrocephalus include arachnoid cysts or craniopharyngiomas, which block the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the ventricular system. In addition, if purulent meningitis or tuberculous meningitis is not treated promptly, it may also lead to obstructive hydrocephalus. Communicating hydrocephalus primarily results from factors such as venous thrombosis or dural sinus thrombosis, which impair CSF circulation and collateral pathways, thereby causing hydrocephalus.
