Causes of dementia in children
Disease description:
Causes of dementia in children
The causes of intellectual disability in children are diverse, primarily including the following aspects:
1. Genetic factors: Chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, account for approximately 10% of cases of intellectually disabled children.
2. Prenatal damage: Intrauterine infections, hypoxia, physical and chemical factors (such as exposure to toxic substances, medications, and radiation), as well as severe maternal malnutrition or illness during pregnancy, may adversely affect the development of the fetal nervous system.
3. Postnatal diseases: Conditions such as meningitis, encephalitis, head trauma, cerebrovascular accidents, and endocrine disorders like hypothyroidism can all lead to impaired intellectual development in children.
4. Gene mutations: Certain congenital metabolic disorders may result from gene mutations, which in turn can cause intellectual disability in children.
