Retinal detachment usually cannot heal on its own. Retinal detachment occurs when the neurosensory layer of the retina separates from the underlying pigment epithelium, leading to vision loss and visual field defects. Common causes include aging, eye trauma, myopia, diabetes, and hypertension. Once detachment occurs, the connection between the retina and the wall of the eyeball is disrupted and cannot spontaneously return to its normal position. Although in rare cases—such as when only a retinal tear is present without significant detachment and the patient has a stable vitreous—the tear may close spontaneously, this scenario is extremely uncommon. Therefore, patients should seek immediate medical attention upon experiencing symptoms of retinal detachment. Prompt intervention through laser therapy or surgical treatment is essential to restore vision and prevent further deterioration of the condition.
