What is a cervical Nabothian cyst?

Nabothian cysts, also known as cervical Nabothian cysts or cervical glandular cysts, are a common cervical condition. They primarily develop due to narrowing or obstruction of the cervical gland ducts, which blocks the drainage of glandular secretions and leads to fluid retention and cyst formation. These cysts are mostly physiological changes, but may also result from chronic inflammation or injury. Nabothian cysts are usually small and scattered, protruding on the surface of the cervix, and typically cause no noticeable symptoms, thus requiring no special treatment. However, in certain cases—such as when the cysts are large or become infected—symptoms such as increased vaginal discharge or abnormal vaginal bleeding may occur.
