I've had my eyelid twitching constantly for the past few days. Although my eyes don't hurt and my vision isn't affected, the persistent twitching has made me feel extremely irritable. I'd like to know what causes constant eyelid twitching?

Eyelid twitching, commonly known as "eye twitch" or "eyelid spasm," is caused by involuntary rapid contractions of the muscles in the eyelid. This phenomenon may result from various factors, including but not limited to fatigue, stress, lack of sleep, excessive caffeine or alcohol intake, eye strain or dryness, and eye irritation. In most cases, eyelid twitching is temporary and short-lived, requiring no special treatment. However, if the twitching persists or occurs frequently, it could be a sign of an underlying health condition such as blepharitis, dry eye syndrome, neurological disorders, or eye muscle diseases. If eyelid twitching does not subside or is accompanied by other symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical consultation promptly.
